Noting that statistics indicate we are facing with a jump in urban growth in developing countries, Dr. Mohammadpour Zarandi, the president of IUESA said Africa and Asia will devote almost all of this growth to themselves in a way that, more than 90 percent of 2.5 billion people who will be added to the world will live in Asia and Africa.

Referring to the increasing growth of urban population in the last few decades, he said Iran’s urban population was 31 percent in 1956 and it reached to 71 percent in 2011. Today, urban population is about 73 percent.

Saying that this huge urban population is counted opportunity from one hand and a threat from other hand, he added it seems economic aspect have been less considered in the path of urban development.

The president of IUESA said: we confront severe challenges in cost management and particularly, income management of cities and Iran’s financial system did not pay much attention to urban civil projects.

Today, air pollution is a serious issue in metropolises, but it should be asked how much of banks’ financial resources have been directed to development of service model, he said.
