The head of IUESA explained:

Damages confronting urban development; a necessity to implement spatial planning document in order to coordinate urban development

Noting that some threats has influenced urban development, Dr. Hossein Mohammadpour Zarandi, the Head of IUESA said: the fact is that the growth and development of urban system has not been balanced and coordinated in our country and urban network is unbalanced. We face with a large urban system based on urban hierarchical theories.
Saying that there is no coordination and harmony between size and population of cities and Tehran, as a political center of the country, has the most economic power and is a population hub, he added, but, the second city is Mashhad that has one-fourth of Tehran’s population, there is a large distance between metropolises and small and medium cities in Iran.
Expressing that to get rid of this damage, spatial planning document should be implemented in order to coordinate urban development, he said: spatial look has been emphasized by Supreme Leader in large scale in suggested general principles of sixth socio-economic development program.
Adding that rapid growth of population is one of the damages confronting metropolises as an attractive hub of population that absorbs many immigrants and causes depopulation of villages, he said: irregular surplus economic migration attracts small villages and cities and it leads to backwardness of these regions. The immigrants confront lots of socio-economic and cultural problems in the destination. They endanger sustainable life of cities in the form of urban poverty and informal settlements.
Emphasizing that uncontrolled and rapid expansion of density and too much focus on population in large cities resulted in failure to continue urban healthy life, he further said: ecological footprint is one of the problems of current development in metropolises in Iran. In fact, the analysis of ecological footprint is an instrument discussing the effects and measuring the amount of resource consumption.
Elsewhere he said: ecological footprint is 4 hectares in Tehran. Each person who lives in Tehran uses about 4 hectares in order to meet consumption demand. It means a space about 390 times more than the current one. It shows this issue well.
