The Head of IUESA said

15 percent share of tourism from France and Italy GDP; one out of 15 people employed in “tourism industry”

IUESA: Referring to the international conference on urban economy, Hossein Mohammadpour Zarandi said, one of the main topics of this conference is economy of urban tourism and it is supposed to hold a specialized panel in this field with presence of scientific figures at this event.

Saying that cities are both source and destination of tourism, he added, the share of urban tourism from international tourism is increasing. City managers are gradually moving toward improvement of tourism infrastructures because of revenue attractions.

Emphasizing that tourism is considered as one of the most profitable industries in the third millennium in the world, Pourzarandi further added number of tourists were 20 million people in 1950, 438 million ones in 1980, 880 million ones in 2012, and more than one billion in 2012 respectively. It is estimated that it will be reached to 1.6 million people by 2020. If 1000 USD is considered as a turnover for each tourist, we may reach to stunning figure of $ 1600 billion.

Adding that tourism is considered as the biggest service sector after banking in international business according to the international bodies such as OCED, he said nearly 15 percent of France and Italy GDP and more than 10 percent of U.K. and U.S. GDP are obtained by tourism. About 10 percent of global GDP and one out of 11 jobs were devoted to tourism in 2012.

Noting that the role of city management is in development of particular and functional tourism infrastructures, the Head of IUESA said a process can be defined so that city management can take advantage tourism revenues.

Saying that international conference on urban economics will be held on May 19 by participating many prominent Iranian and foreign figures, he further said, we hope that conference achievements can prepare a ground for developing urban tourism.

It is noteworthy that international conference on urban economy will be held on May 19 in Tehran with the presence of some Iranian and foreign scientific and executive figures. It will be held by IUESA and many Iranian and foreign bodies including Interior Ministry, Ministry of Culture and Islamic Guidance, Allameh Tabatabaei University, Imam Sadiq University, Kharazmi University, Isfahan University, Yazd university, Islamic Azad University, Tehran Municipality, Tehran City Council, Qazvin Municipality, shiraz Municipality, University of Jihad, Asian Mayors forum, UNESCO, UCLG/MEWA, METROPOLISE have been sponsored for this event.

Naming the topics of international conference on urban economics, he further said, “economy of smart city”, “economy of urban tourism”, “economy of urban infrastructures”, “economic culture of city and citizenship education”, “urban dilemmas, the environment, and air pollution, management of human capital development and urban economy, banking systems, social banking, and urban economy, modeling resistance economy in cities and urban passive defense, pricing urban services, financing, and municipal revenues, management of municipal service, organizations of urban management, and private sector” are the topics of this conference.
