Tehran citizens’ criteria to stay or leave their neighborhoods

IUESA: Referring to the urban rapid growth in the recent years globally and consequently in Iran, Seyyed Mohsen Tabatabaei, the general director of the scientific-research quarterly journal of urban economics and management said analysis and assessment of urban evident require special knowledge and tool.

Saying that urban economics is a knowledge trying to present fair understanding of economic events both at macro and micro levels, he added, one of the important issues that exists in most metropolises, but it is less analyzed is the concept of “residential satisfaction”.

Explaining this concept, Tabatabaei said, in fact, residential satisfaction is a degree of family’s consent that is appeared due to housing conditions as well as the neighborhood itself.

Saying that if residential satisfaction is high, the households will stay in that neighborhood; otherwise they may leave it, the secretary of IUESA said, accordingly, families’ reasons for movement can be evaluated and analyzed in a metropolis like Tehran.

Emphasizing that if opportunities and urban services are presented equally, families’ residential satisfaction will be increased, he further said, the most important factors affecting residential satisfaction in metropolises include housing, access to transport, facilities, services, and land use.
