The purposes of holding international conference on urban economics

IUESA: explaining the goals of international conference on urban economics, Sadeghi Shahdani, the head of the faculty of Islamic studies and economics of Imam Sadiq University said the process of urbanization has been increased in the world and consequently in Iran, and this has resulted in many challenges facing the cities.

Saying that More than 70 per cent of people live in cities in our country and it has been more than 50 percent in the world in 2014, he added, cities cannot be managed by traditional methods anymore, and it is necessary to take advantage of up-to-date knowledge in the world.

Highlighting that one of the most important aspects of city management is economic management of the city i.e. urban economy, he further said local governments’ share in administering countries’ affairs is increasing; therefore, the issue of urban economics has been in the spotlight of academic and administrative departments.

Saying that unfortunately urban economics has not been institutionalized, Shahdani, the head of the faculty of Islamic studies and economics of Imam Sadiq University said, the conference tries to attract scientific society of the country to the importance of urban economy.

Emphasizing that one of the most important issues in urban economy is sustainable revenue and sustainable development, he added, municipalities have to sell density and obtain unsustainable revenues when there is no economic look for city management. This would influence the quality of urban life significantly.

Saying that international conference on urban economy will be held on May 19, he said deadline for article submission has been extended until April 19.
